Sri Sai University proudly inaugurated its new Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Department on June 18, 2022, marking a significant milestone in adventure education in India. The programme was formally inaugurated by Lieutenant General Nav Kumar Khanduri as the Chief Guest. The event was graced by Honourable Guest Major General Atul Kaushik, who shared valuable insights on the future of adventure sports and mountaineering in India. The department was established with the vision of developing skilled professionals in mountaineering, adventure tourism, search and rescue operations, adventure park management, expedition leadership, and outdoor education. Through this pioneering initiative, Sri Sai University became one of the leading universities in the country to introduce such a specialised programme in the field of adventure sports and mountain studies.
The department is actively being supervised and guided by experienced instructors Captain Narayan Thakur and Captain Chet Ram Rana, who are contributing significantly towards training, adventure activities, and the development of students in the field of mountaineering and adventure sports. Several eminent personalities from the mountaineering and defence community attended the occasion, including Dr. Harshwanti Bisht, Brigadier Narendra Kumar, Brigadier K Kumar, Colonel SC Sharma, DIG Avinash Negi, Prof. Milap Chand Sharma, and Dr. Shrawan Acharya. On this special occasion, Chancellor Er. SK Punj, Managing Director Mrs. Tripta Punj, Pro-Chancellor Kanwar Tushar Punj, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. R. S. Rana expressed their gratitude to all distinguished guests and contributors for making the programme a grand success.
The inauguration reflected the university’s commitment to promoting adventure education, leadership, environmental awareness, and the spirit of mountaineering among the youth of India.
